Browsers
The Stanford Benefits site is optimized for viewing on Internet Explorer 6.0 and higher, as well as Firefox 2.0 and higher, on the Microsoft Windows operating system. The site also works well on Firefox 2.0 and higher as well as Safari 2.0 on MacOS. You might experience problems with this site if you use Internet Explorer on the Mac.
Downloading PDF Documents
There are two ways to download and view PDF documents on your computer: 1) through the Adobe Acrobat plugin on your browser, or 2) by downloading the file to your hard drive and using the Adobe Acrobat Viewer. Both the viewer and the plugin can be downloaded here.
To view a PDF document in your browser, simply click on the link to the PDF document. If the plugin is correctly installed, the PDF document will appear in your browser.
If you are having problems viewing PDF documents in your browser, or if you would prefer to keep a copy of the PDF document, you can download and save a PDF document by right-clicking on the link to the document. From the pop-up menu in Internet Explorer, select "Save Target As..." and save the document to your hard drive. MacOS users can do the same by pressing the Control button while clicking on the link, then selecting "Download Link to Disk" or "Save Linked File."
Note: if you are having trouble viewing PDF documents in your browser, try re-installing the plugin. If you have more than one browser program on your computer, be sure to select the correct one when installing the plugin.
Viewing Flash Movies
In order to view the Flash movies on this site, you will need to have the Adobe Flash plugin installed in your browser. Most current browsers come with the plug-in pre-installed. However, if you are having problems viewing Flash movies, you will need to visit the Adobe site to download and install the plugin.
Changing The Type Size On Your Browser
The Stanford Benefits site is set up so that you may change the type to whatever size is comfortable for you to read. Note that, depending on the browser version you are using, changing the type size might slightly affect the page layout. We apologize for this inconvenience.
For Windows Users With Firefox
To change the type size in Firefox, select "Text Size" from the View menu. This gives you the option to increase or decrease the type size. For Windows Users With Internet Explorer
Press and hold down the Control (or Ctrl) button while moving the scroll wheel on your mouse. This will increase or decrease the type size, depending on which direction you move the scroll wheel. For Mac Users
Firefox and Safari both use the same method for changing type size: hold down the Command button (also known as the Apple button) while pressing the plus (+) or minus (-) keys.- We do not recommend using Internet Explorer on the MacOS.
